By the thirteenth of September, Keegan was already past due. His mother, Christine Hect was a devout but superstitious Catholic that didn’t want her son born on the 13th. The number was bad luck, and considering the complications with their first child’s birth, she insisted on keeping him in until the 14th. Finally, she began giving birth at midnight, and (13) hours later, their second son and child was born. It seemed like Christine couldn’t get away from the number no matter how hard she tried. Keegan Daniel Hect was a healthy infant; it was his mother who would suffer consequences after the birth. An obstetrical hemorrhage is what ended her life, the doctors said it was most likely attributed to a late in life pregnancy but after the birth of their first child and the several years they spent raising him, Christine begged Harold for another “chance” to have a child. Burying the love of his life was difficult but the next few years raising both sons may have been even harder on the introverted man that made his living as a plumber in his father’s company. His older son, Jacob was born with cerebral palsy and needed special care. Unconditionally, he loved his first born child and saw nothing wrong with him, he saw someone that had a vivacious personality - his wife however, didn’t seem too accepting of the child. It was a story he never wanted to tell both sons, that she had wanted a “do-over” with a second child, so he buried that secret with her ( . ) |
